Topic Discussion:

The 2 most popular social network extensions for Joomla are Community Builder and Jom Social. We've invited 2 specialists that use JomSocial and CB to build websites for clients on a regular basis, Parth Lawate from TechJoomla and Joe Palmer from SoftForge to discuss the ins and outs of each of these.

Our questions to our guests included the following:

  • What types of communities have you built with Community Builder and JomSocial?
  • What Extension-specific plugins or modules do you install with them? Do you have a ‘standard’ build you use?
  • Talk about moderation and ACL a little bit, does Community Builder or Jom Social have it’s own ACL to add usergroups and assign responsibilities to them?
  • Let’s talk about modifying the look and feel of the extension, does CB or Jom Social use its own template system or can you use html overrides within the Joomla template?
  • Talk about some of the specific challenges you’ve faced with client builds and how has CB or JomSocial helped to address them?
