JoomStew Radio – Joomla 1.6 Migration

jeremy_wilken-kyle_ledbetter

Jeremy Wilken and Kyle Ledbetter

This week's JoomStew Radio continues with our Joomla 1.6 release theme, but this time our focus is on what it will take to migrate your website from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6.

First up is Kyle Ledbetter, who's been leading the current Joomla.org redesign, as well as owner/designer/developer for AdminPraise, who creates killer admin templates for Joomla.

Joining him today is Jeremy Wilken who is the lead developer for Joomlashack and has a personal blog at gnomeontherun.com where he shares his personal views on what's happening in the Joomla Community.

It's a great show, with alot of useful information about the changes to the framework, extensions and templates for Joomla 1.6. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did this week!

Migrate to 1.6: Lots of resources being added around the web this week - We’ll update this list as we learn about them. Here are our guests' blog posts:

Working in the Community

  • jUpgrade - If you haven’t yet downloaded and tested Matias’ jUpgrade component to migrate your site to Joomla 1.6, you should do so. Don’t make the first run on your live site. Set up a test copy of your site and migrate it to see what all will be involved.
  • The deadline for the February issue of the JCM is the 23rd... our theme this month is Joomla! 1.6. Go to magazine.joomla.org and submit an article! International  articles are welcome!
  • We can’t say this enough...get involved! How? Help test the latest patches, join a JUG, answer questions in the forum, update the wiki... the more you put in, the more you get out of it!
